Out with the old and in with the new!

The new website is live just in time for the new year! Yay!

Over the past 6 weeks or so I have worked very hard to create a brand new website. While the old one did it's job there were a lot of issues that I wasn't happy with because I was in a hurry to get it done and rushed through the process. Now that I've taken the time to consider what went wrong the first time, I'm very happy to say that the new one is 10x better than it was before! I have switched from Mals E-cart to Paypal Cart and can finally stop worrying about selling inventory I don't have!

I've uploaded a few screen shots of the new website highlighting all the changes and updates. You'll notice that there is a brand new Printables section that I plan to fill up starting in the new year. You can click to zoom and see all the new and updated features.

I am slowly but surely making my way

through the massive cookie/candy recipes I keep printing out. lol

Here is a recipe for icebox cookies that I would recommend trying. They're from the Martha Stewart site so obviously they are good! It's a basic dough that can be frozen and made a gazillion different ways. Here's the link to ideas for different variations. I made the thumbprint ones with half the dough and then for the other half I mixed in some cranberries, made a log and rolled the log in chopped almond slivers. Both variations were very good!

All in One Cookie Dough
Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter, sugar, and salt until light and fluffy. Add yolks, one at a time, scraping the bowl after each addition. Add vanilla. With mixer on low, add flour; mix just until combined. Wrap in plastic; chill until firm, about 1 hour. To make ahead: Refrigerate up to 2 weeks, or freeze up to 3 months.
  2. Citrus or Spice: Whisk 1 tablespoon grated lemon, lime, or orange zest (or a combination), or 1 tablespoon pumpkin-pie spice into the flour before adding it to the butter mixture.

Website Update

The website is coming along nicely at this point. I know I haven't been updating the blog much lately but that is because I haven't been feeling 100% and because I've been busy busy with all the projects I am working on for early 2010.  The website should be up and running *fingers crossed* next week. There were a lot of things I wish I did the first time around that I skipped because I was in a such a rush to have it completed. Well, that wont happen this time because over the past 8 months I have taken lots of notes and have very patiently over the last few weeks been upgrading and implementing those things into the new site. Anyways, the point of this post is because I wanted to share with you the new "In Action" page which is basically a fan photo page. If you've got any photos that you haven't sent me yet and don't mind being include please email them to me at thetinyfig@hotmail.com

I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner!

I have spent most of this week re-photographing my items and making sure that things are clean, crisp and bright. One thing I discovered was that my scanner is awesome for doing photos of my paper goodies. I didn't even tweek any of these photos. I just cropped and resized. If you've got a scanner you should give it a whirl!

Something new out of something old.

You might remember a few months back I was selling hair pins with these charms on them. Well, I ran out of hair pins and was left with all these charms. These guys have been sitting in a box waiting patiently to find good homes until now. I re-sealed them with resin and they are even better than when they were new! So, after that I still wasn't quite sure what to do with them especially since I am not buying any supplies at the moment! After some more cleaning (yes,  more cleaning... It's never ending!) I found a  pack of these cute mini clothing pegs in my supplies. I originally bought them because I use to have a mini peg with a wooden red heart charm that I clipped on my blazer but I lost it and I wanted another one (I never did end up making it because I was so busy). Anyways, I  now have something fun to pin on my collar again and they make great little clips for the office too :) There will be a couple sets available in the Etsy shop when I have time to photograph them. Keep an eye out!

Free Gift With Purchase!

Just wanted to remind you that there are 11 days left to take advantage of my free gift with purchase offer so stop by the shop now!!!

If you're wondering what the free gift is you'll have to purchase something to find out :P Originally I planned the sale to end on the 30th but because I decided to do another promotion for the weekend of Black Friday I have moved the end date to Nov 26th.

What to do with these?

I'm a little bit obsessed with alphabets lately.. I made these for fun and because I wanted to try out the ice resin I bought a few weeks ago and now I'm not really sure what to do with them. They are one of the few things I've made during "project clear out". They are paper decoupaged onto a polymer clay tile and sealed with a coat of resin. The original plan was to make them into small pendants for the shop but when I was baking them they paper turned yellow around the edges of the letter and so I peeled all the letters off and re-did them. Good news is I didn't have to throw them all out and I do like this new resin a lot despite the horrible smell. Bad news is that a few of them don't fit the tiles perfectly. Plus, it's kind of hard to sell an entire alphabet in the shop when these are not exactly "made to order" friendly.  So, what to do?

I finally bought a shipping scale

after two years of going to the post office. I might have to return it though because... I bought some stamps yesterday and then I realized that the stamps are for lettermail only and don't quite add up to the light packet amount when you stick on 2 or 3. So I took it to the post office and they added the extra charge for me and then the clerk told me that I can't ship via light packet using stamps and that I have to line up and have them print out the label and such (which is what I was trying to avoid). Is this true? Can't I just buy a bunch of 1, 5 and 10 cent stamps to add on what I am missing?

Project "Clear Out"

It's official! I like to hoard my supplies. I buy and I buy and I buy.... with no real project in mind and I have a gazillion projects "in the works". Of course I live in Canada where shipping costs and arm and a leg and maybe some organs so destash is out of the question. What to do? This weekend I decided to start project "Clear Out". I seriously need to get rid of all this stuff so until I get rid of a decent amount I will not buy any more supplies unless absolutely necessary (meaning I ran out of it). So, over the next few weeks hopefully you will see new goodies in the shop made from extra charms, polymer clay, felt, yards and yards of fabric, stacks of paper, stamps, screen printing supplies, plastic...... I can't even name all of the different supplies I have. lol these are made from some extra charms I have lying around and are going up in the shop this week.
