Because I Can

These three words can mean a lot of different things (pretty much anything from empowering to snarky) just depends on your mood ;)

I don't usually write about myself very often I like to keep my thoughts to myself most of the time... but I think I'd like to share with you all why I've designed this shirt. I've been trying to drill these words into my head for years... almost 6 years to be exact. Why you ask? Well, it may not be obvious unless you know me personally, but I suffer from anxiety issues due to all the traumatic experiences I've been through over the years. As a result I tend to make a lot of excuses, I push people away, I say "I can't" a lot, I talk myself out of doing things that I really enjoy doing and I've gotten really good at it. I'm calling myself out because I want to change. I want to be able to feel a bit of normalcy again and just by constantly reminding myself that "I can" instead of "I can't" all the time has given me the confidence to actively make choices that enable me to live my life better. The text is bold and simple. It's also my handwriting.

What do these words mean to you?

p.s. shirt will be available in shop next week. Sorry about the confusion!

Good for you! I know how you feel about the "I can't" phrase! I only recently started believing in "Because I can" when I finally opened my Etsy shop and put myself out there for everyone to see! FEAR ruled my life! You can do anything! BELIEVE!

Fantastic post...I'm battling the "I can't" demons this week. I got into a top notch writing program on the other side of the country. I know I can make this move, complete my studies, and do all of the things that I want to do. But...the "I can'ts" are seriously nagging at me, biting at my heels this week.

That is great. I have a lot of confidence issues, so I sometimes have to force myself to step back and say, "I can do this."

It's good to have a mantra! Keep up the great work :) (Because you can!)

I found this post because I searched for Because I Can on Pinterest and your shirts came up on Etsy.

What Because I Can means to me?

After almost losing my leg and almost dying in a horrific vehicle accident, doctors didn't know if I would ever walk again.

I had four years of ongoing surgeries and I spent about two of those years on the couch angry and depressed, due to pain, limitations and a deformed leg.
Finally I realized life is too short to be miserable and I began doing what what I can, with what I have, where I am. With time I returned to running which had been a vital part of my life for the previous 10 years.

Now I'm training for a full marathon... because I can!
