I've been meaning to do a real photoshoot for... well, since I launched my tshirts but somehow life always seems to get in the way and it never happens. I got sick of waiting and sick of staring at my stock photos so my sister and I had a little fun yesterday and we shot all the (small sized) shirts I had in stock. They're a little bit grey and shadowy but they will do until the weather warms up and we can shoot outside. :)

I had 3 shows in 2 days. My sister helped me out over at Heritage Hall while mom and I were at Portobello West this past weekend. It was kind of funny how many people came by and said they saw my sister at HH and vice versa. It was so great to see some familiar faces :)

The plan was to not do any shows this holiday season and rest up because my health has been so up and down... but if you know me, you'll know that I can't sit still. I forced myself to pull out of the larger shows like Make It and Got Craft because I didn't want to get too stressed making inventory and then I got really sad that I wasn't doing anything this season. I'm re-launching my website in the middle of August. AGAIN?! yes, again! I know I re-did the site earlier this year but I'm still not quite satisfied with the way it is. The new shopping cart is going to be really clean, functional and more visually appealing. Plus, I will be able to offer better shipping rates, coupon codes and gift certificates (which I am unable to do on the current cart)! YAY! more savings for you!

Why am I telling you this now? So last christmas, my sister and I were addicted to these chocolate covered pretzels from Godiva.. mmm.. I want some right now actually... Anyways, the tins they came in were so pretty I couldn't throw them out and have been using them to store various tools and supplies but I hate that they say Godiva on them! Today, I finally had some time to sit down and make them nicer. haha It's amazing what a little bit of shelf liner can do :D I picked up this awesome woodgrain shelf liner at the dollar store a while ago and it goes perfectly with the gold!

Okay so before and after below.. but the before picture isn't the actual one.. the tins had these big circle sticker labels on them that had really sticky adhesive that took me forever to scrub off. The photo was taken after all that scrubbing. (tip: use lots of canola oil!) This liner method would work great for tin cans or some other types of smooth tins so you can make your own pretty little storage containers or pencil holders!

Because I Can

These three words can mean a lot of different things (pretty much anything from empowering to snarky) just depends on your mood ;)

I don't usually write about myself very often I like to keep my thoughts to myself most of the time... but I think I'd like to share with you all why I've designed this shirt. I've been trying to drill these words into my head for years... almost 6 years to be exact. Why you ask? Well, it may not be obvious unless you know me personally, but I suffer from anxiety issues due to all the traumatic experiences I've been through over the years. As a result I tend to make a lot of excuses, I push people away, I say "I can't" a lot, I talk myself out of doing things that I really enjoy doing and I've gotten really good at it. I'm calling myself out because I want to change. I want to be able to feel a bit of normalcy again and just by constantly reminding myself that "I can" instead of "I can't" all the time has given me the confidence to actively make choices that enable me to live my life better. The text is bold and simple. It's also my handwriting.

What do these words mean to you?

If you don't already know I've been running around insanely for the last 3 weeks or so running a gazillion errands and doing prep work for my night market days. So far so good. Night Market fun!

Thanks to everyone who came out to support The Tiny Fig! Special thanks to my family who came out and helped me when there were people mobbing my booth from all sides! It was so much fun! I can't wait for next Saturday to come!

Lesson learned: I forgot my pretty banner at home but luckily I had my back up banner tucked away in a box. It's no surprise that the french toast was an instant celebrity! Anything with the french toast on it was a hot seller! If you didn't make it out this week, I'm hoping to see you all there next Saturday! Will definitely be booking more dates in August!

We ate so much random food I don't think at any point I was ever full! Takoyaki, taiyaki, curry fish balls, deep fried cheesecake, fake shark fin soup, egg ball waffles... haha yums.. there's so much I haven't tried and I can still smell the kettle corn!

It was really interesting to see because even though most of the vendors were all selling jewellery they were all unique in their own ways. Last night I sat through 3.5 hours of Killarney's grad ceremony. It was painful but worth it to see lil sis & cousin walking across the stage. Slept at 1am and woke up at 8am. So sleepy. Seriously, if I could I would be in bed right now. Especially since my eye is killing me.

I've had a lot of sugar and the weekend is not over yet. It started off yesterday when I bought a dozen cream puffs from Beard Papa's and they gave us 2 for free as a Mother's Day special. I ate like 4 of those... yes, I really like cream puffs :P Today my mom and I hit up Baker's Market. It really wasn't what I expected. Other than the fact that it was kind of the middle of nowhere, I was a pretty disappointed to find that the event was held in the back room of some wedding shop and was SUPER cramped and stuffy. I think the place was less than 200sq ft! BUT I did manage to get some goodies and some of the vendors were nice enough to let me take photos :D

I did this design last year and I really want to get it printed but since there are 6 colors I just couldn't justify the costs of printing it as it would affect the final price you pay for the shirt too much. I decided to wait to see if maybe I could find a printer who would do it for a lower price but it's been months and I haven't found anyone better. So, in my final attempt to get this design printed (because I think it would be so sweet on a shirt) I have submitted it to threadless.

For those of you who don't know, I'm a huge hockey fan! I've already got play offs on my mind even though there are still 5 games left in the regular season! Anyways, I can't seem to stop thinking about it because both teams I am cheering for have cinched spots again this year. Vancouver (my home team) and Pittsburgh (my favorite team) :D

Now I'm not sure if you remember but last year during the Pens play off run I did this cute penguin illustration to show my love.

And so with play offs and Earth Day and penguins being my favorite animal, I wanted to revamp that little penguin illustration and make it even cuter. lol is that possible? I say yes! Now who want's to see this design on a tank top? or a tee? I haven't attempted to print multi-colors in a while but I'm sure this one is simple enough to do.

When I first opened my shop (2 years ago) I printed my own business cards and at one point I bought those perforated business card sheets but never figured out how to set up the template until recently. So instead of letting them sit in storage any longer I decided to put them to good use and made these mini flyers to slip into my orders and pass out at my upcoming shows. They're pretty simple and that's what I love about it. There's a discount code printed on the back side as well :)

Screen printing!

For those of you who don't know I really LOVE to screen print because it's so relaxing and the entire process is so satisfying. Well, a few months ago I was not very healthy and I had to go through a lot of medical treatments in order to get better. It didn't give me much time or energy to the things I love and to even keep my shop up and running was a bit of a struggle at times. Seeing all my screen printing equipment sitting there just made me kind of sad so I packed it all up and put it away.

About a month ago I bought a Yudu Machine and I have been so busy with making inventory for my first craft show, wholesale accounts, just keeping the shop running and the website updated that I didn't even have a chance to open it until earlier this week! I finally pulled all my jars of ink, emulsion and squeegees back out and I am having a lot ton of fun with it! I've made my first screen and have been test printing on various types of fabric and old shirts.

I had the cutest little girl as my first customer. She bought a froggy ring but she was a little bit camera shy and I couldn't get a good photo. She's the daughter of one of the ladies of http://www.etsy.com/shop/2craftychicksonline

I heard two japanese girls repeatedly saying "kawaii" as they chatted in Japanese and looked at all the cute stuff on my table. It made me giggle.

I sold a handbag! Yippee!

I had a customer tell me that the little girl on my business card looks like me. Which is good because it is me!

Lesson learned: always check your money. I paid a toonie ($2) to learn this lesson. Actually, I'm not sure if it was a customer who gave me this or if it was in the roll that I got from the bank. Anyone know what the coin on the left is? I can't even read it.

Update! I figured it out with the help of some people in the Etsy forums. It's a Thai coin. 10 Baht. Worth about $0.30 haha

It was a good experience and I look forward to my next show at the end of March. :)
Hopefully I will get around to photo taking this week and get some new stuff in the webshop.

Stamp update.

As you know, I have been working on stamps and sometimes they come out great and other times not so great but the majority of times I have been having a problem with bubbles. These teeny tiny little bubbles have caused so many problems that I decided to order some vulcanized rubber stamps for you guys instead. Bad for me for investing in clear stamps and good for you because the stamps I'm ordering are great quality. Only thing is, we have to sit and wait patiently for them to come.

February Design Challenge: Polaroid Pendants

If you've been following me on facebook you'll already have seen this photo below. I have been working on a new series of polaroid pendants that will debut at the craft show I am doing in 2 weeks. My February challenge is to design a spring themed polaroid pendant! It could be a photograph, a doodle, an illustration or anything as long as it relates to spring. It must measure at least 3" x 3" inches square at 300 dpi to ensure print quality. If your design is chosen as the winner I will personally make you a polaroid pendant featuring your design.
